hen a rule is paused, no trades will be triggered based on that particular rule until it is reactivated. To put it simply, pausing a rule puts a temporary halt on its trading actions. Trades will only resume once the rule is unpaused or relaunched.

What happens if I pause a rule?

If you wish to make alterations to an existing rule:

: Before making any changes, it's crucial to pause the rule to prevent any unintended trades.
 

: It's a best practice to duplicate the rule you intend to modify. This way, you have a backup of the original configuration, and it helps maintain a clear audit trail of your rule modifications. 
 

: Once you've duplicated the rule, you can proceed to edit it. Please note that editing options may be restricted to certain fields. This is to ensure that core components of the rule remain consistent and that the integrity of the rule logic is preserved.
 

Alternatively, if you choose not to duplicate the rule, you can edit the original rule directly without duplicating.

At present, blocks within a rule can only be removed from the bottom upwards. This means if you have a series of blocks, the last block added would be the first you can delete. We understand the potential limitations of this design and are actively working to provide more flexibility in block removal.

Coinrule has introduced a new feature 'Reset Demo Wallet'. This update allows you to reset your demo wallet allocation conveniently at any time, providing you with an ample amount of coins to test your rules on the demo exchange. This article explains how to reset your demo wallet on Coinrule.

You can reset your demo wallet on your Coinrule account by navigating to the Rule Dashboard page. On the rule dashboard, simply click on the “Wallet” icon at the top of the page, highlighted in green:

After clicking on your ‘Wallet’, the wallet dropdown opens up, showing all your available coins on Coinrule. Click on ‘Show demo exchange’ to show the coins available in your demo wallet.  

Once your demo exchange wallet is visible, click on ‘Reset Balance’ to reset your demo exchange wallet: 

This immediately resets your demo wallet, giving you the ability to run more rules on the demo exchange without the need to manually reset your demo wallet allocation. 

Pro Tip: It is important to ensure that you have no active demo rules running before resetting your demo wallet to prevent those rules from throwing any errors.

How To Reset Demo Wallet

The demo exchange is a great way to test the logic of your strategies in a realistic environment. Coinrule's demo exchange is modelled on Binance and features the same coins. 

However, at times you will find that demo exchange trades and live trades can lead to different outcomes.

While the logic behind the executions is the same both for demo and live, the main difference lies in the fact that slippage  is not taken into account on the Demo exchange. This can lead to different outcomes.

Slippage refers to the difference between the expected price of a trade and the price at which the trade is actually executed. Slippage occurs when;

The requested trade size/volume is bigger than the current bids or offers available in the orderbook which causes the execution in the next bid/ask level(s). This usually occurs when trading a large amount with a low-volume trading asset.

The market moved very quickly. In this case, we can see a price of $10, decide to enter a trade, send the order, and by the time it executes (which can be in milliseconds) the price has moved to $10.1

This is not caused by a technical issue, but by the market/asset behaviour. At times the real world cannot be simulated entirely accurately.

﻿The lack of slippage generally improves the returns of Demo rules. This effect is even more evident when the rule trades less liquid coins and takes profit with very small price percentages. You can 

Also, at busy times, the conditions on demo rules may be checked less frequently by our system than live rules. That is intended to give priority to live trading strategies running on our servers.

Demo rules are not intended to replicate precisely the results of live trading, but they provide a useful sandbox to test out the logic of the strategies and for checking at which point the rule would open and close trades. This provides useful insight into how to optimize your rule setup.

In most cases, trading results are similar when comparing live trading and demo trading. When trading assets with lower liquidity, slippage can be spotted when comparing demo rules to rules on the live exchange and finding different results or missing hits between them. The reason for these gaps is (almost) always slippage, which affects live trading and does not affect trading on the demo exchange. 

This is something to be generally mindful of when trading low-volume assets. 

Coinrule is also continuing to look into making the Demo Exchange even more realistic in a way that would take into account the effect of slippage.

Volume and Marketcap indicators use market updates from 

. Once the rule has started, Coinrule gets an initial snapshot of the data for the indicators. Every few seconds, a new data snapshot will be compared to the initial snapshot. If the condition is met during any check within 5 minutes, the rule will execute. If the condition is not met within 5 minutes, the initial snapshot will be replaced with the current snapshot every 5 minutes.

highest price increase in the most recent 1 Day candle 

compared to the previous 1 Day candle as per TradingView. This is by definition always 1 specific coin. 24h later this will most likely be another coin.

One important thing to note  is that, when discussing best performing coin, especially in the context of the most recent 1 Day candle, it's crucial to understand that Candles are time zone independent. This means that regardless of where you are in the world, the data represented by a 1 Day candle remains consistent, ensuring a uniform frame of reference for traders globally.

The best performing coin provides a snapshot of the market's current momentum and direction. While it is a useful metric, it's vital for traders to use it in conjunction with other tools and research to make informed decisions.

To use Bitcoin resistance or support levels in a rule, you have to add a condition that includes BTC at the end of your condition block as in the below example:​

if you include it as the first condition or with an ‘or’ in front of it. The rule would replace the coin reference with BTC in this instance and the rule would buy BTC rather than ‘any coin’ that meets the previous conditions.

When trading volume limits are reached, a users active Live rules will be paused. You can restart them after your volume limit resets at the beginning of a new month or if you upgrade to a higher tier plan.

When running a trading rule, traders can now set their preferred trading exceptions on Coinrule. 

Users can now set specific trading exceptions to prevent rules from buying “

". This integration eliminates the need to enter DO NOT conditions during rule creation when using the specified trading exceptions, providing a seamless trading experience. 

“DO NOT buy same coin twice until sold”

 trading exception will prevent each rule from buying a coin again 

. Once the open trade has been closed through a sell, the rule will then buy the same coin again should it meet the conditions you have set up.

Important: Do not buy same coin twice until sold trading exception applies as a default for each rule separately. For example, if rule 1 buys BTC, another rule (e.g. rule 2 can also buy it. Essentially, it basically prevents the need to enter the do not operator when creating a rule.

” and "DO NOT buy fiat currencies" trading exceptions are enabled,  this will prevent rules from buying Stablecoins and Fiat Currencies when it checks for potential trades.

To set your trading exceptions on Coinrule, follow the steps below

TIP: Trading exceptions only apply when using: '

 For example, if a user selects specific coin(s) such as "IF KAVA has price greater than x in x timeframe BUY...", in that case the exception is not applied.

Essentially, in the scenario below, the trading exceptions will not be applied.​

The trading exceptions allows for a greater level of control over the coins the rule will trade. This way, you can optimize further how every single rule works, giving you the ability to customize your rules with exceptions with just one click.

How to use trading exceptions on Coinrule

Trading Exceptions on Coinrule

This error could relate to a number of causes which prevent a rule from running on a given exchange. Coinrule does not always receive a specific error message from the Exchange which is why we can not always provide an exact reason for why a trade has been rejected.

Common causes for the 'Exchange Rejected Trade' error are:

Your rule is trying to trade a coin that is not available in your geography and gets blocked by an exchange's Geo-blocking mechanism

You are trying to trade a coin for which there is no trading pair on the exchange:

Your rule might buy a coin which has a trading pair COIN/BTC but then try to sell to your DAI wallet for which there may not be a trading pair COIN/DAI. 

Other reasons why this error may occur is that the exchange is having temporary technical issues or lag.

2. The Order Was Placed But Could Not Be Fulfilled By The Exchange*

This typically happens with limit orders when trading less liquid trading pairs. Coinrule uses "Fill or kill" Limit orders which means that the order is sent into the orderbook and unless there is sufficient liquidity at your set price in that moment, the order will not be executed but killed.​

Coinrule will continue to evaluate the buy/sell condition and submit another order if the condition is met

You can increase the likelihood of your Limit Orders triggering by increasing your Safety margin in the settings page:

This means that an order will be filled if there is sufficient liquidity inside the orderbook at your desired price + the % of safety margin.

Example: Limit order is sent to buy a coin at a price of $100 but the only available 'sell order' in the orderbook is at $101. At a 0% safety margin, your order will be killed. With a 1% safety margin, the order will trigger.

It means the order (very likely a limit order) was placed and we are awaiting a status confirmation from the exchange. If you can still see this kind of activity after many hours or days, the order won't be confirmed at all and it very likely means something went wrong and we were unable to confirm the order. In that case you should restart the rule.

4. Insufficient Balance / Waiting for Balance

This error message usually shows up when the amount set in the action is higher than the available balance of the coin in your wallet.​

We are excited to introduce a significant improvement in the rule creation interface on Coinrule! The ability to delete in-between blocks in your rule setups allows for more flexibility and efficiency in developing and modifying your trading strategies.

How to Use the Delete In-Between Blocks Functionality During Rule Creation

: Navigate to the rule page to set up your trading rule.
 

: Hover over the 'screw' icon on the block you wish to delete. Blocks are the individual conditions or actions that make up your rule.

Click, to check if the block can be deleted. A 'remove block' button will appear if the block can be removed without disrupting the sequence of the rule logic.

Click on the 'remove block' icon to delete the block.

If the block's removal would result in an incorrect sequence, the delete option will not be available. 

 Easily remove specific blocks without needing to delete and recreate subsequent blocks.

 Adjust your trading strategies quicker by directly removing unnecessary blocks.

 Experiment with different configurations by seamlessly removing unwanted conditions.

Deletion is only permitted if it does not invalidate the rule logic.

The rule will update immediately after a block is deleted. Review the rule to ensure it behaves as expected.
