How to Connect ChatGPT to Coinrule MCP

Last updated July 17, 2026

Learn how to connect ChatGPT to Coinrule MCP, choose Read or Write access, test the connector, and fix the invalid_client error.

You can connect ChatGPT to Coinrule as a custom MCP connector by adding the official Coinrule MCP server URL and completing the Coinrule OAuth sign-in. Once connected, ChatGPT can use authorised Coinrule tools to read supported account information and, with Read + Write access, create and manage supported trading strategies.

This guide covers the ChatGPT-specific connection processFor a general introduction to MCP, see  What Is Coinrule MCP?  or visit the  Coinrule MCP overview .

What can ChatGPT do after connecting to Coinrule MCP?

With a Read only connection, ChatGPT can use supported Coinrule MCP tools to retrieve information such as:

  • Portfolio balances.
  • Holdings.
  • Connected accounts.
  • Trading strategies.
  • Trades.
  • Recent signals.
  • PnL.

With Read + Write permission, ChatGPT can also access supported tools for actions such as:

  • Validating trading strategies.
  • Creating strategies.
  • Updating strategies.
  • Starting or stopping strategies.
  • Launching baskets.
  • Running backtests.

The  Coinrule MCP documentation  provides the full technical reference for these capabilities.

How do you connect ChatGPT to Coinrule MCP?

Step 1: Open ChatGPT's connector settings

In ChatGPT, open Settings and go to the area used to manage Apps / Connectors, then choose the option to add a custom connector.

This is the setup path currently documented by Coinrule.

Step 2: Enter the Coinrule MCP server URL

Use:

https://cloud.coinrule.com/mcp

According to Coinrule's documentation, ChatGPT automatically discovers the OAuth configuration from this URL. You do not need to manually provide additional OAuth endpoints.

Use the URL exactly as shown.

Extra paths or query strings can cause the connector URL to fail.

Step 3: Sign in to your Coinrule account

ChatGPT opens the Coinrule authentication flow.

Complete the sign-in using your normal Coinrule account.

Authentication is handled by Coinrule through OAuth, so ChatGPT does not receive your Coinrule password or exchange API keys.

Step 4: Choose Read only or Read + Write

Choose Read only when you want ChatGPT to inspect supported information in your account without giving it access to write tools.

Choose Read + Write when you want ChatGPT to access supported tools for creating or managing trading strategies and other documented write actions.

Remember that Read + Write access on a live connected account can be used to launch strategies that trade real funds.

See  Coinrule MCP Permissions and Security  before enabling it.

Step 5: Confirm the connection

Once the OAuth process is complete, return to ChatGPT and test the connection with a simple request such as:

Show my Coinrule portfolio balances.

If the connection is working and the relevant tools are available, ChatGPT can use Coinrule MCP to retrieve the authorised information.

What can you ask ChatGPT to do with Coinrule?

Your available workflows depend on your permission level.

For a Read connection, you might ask:

What Coinrule strategies do I have running?
Show my portfolio holdings.
What recent signals have my strategies generated?

For Read + Write, you can ask ChatGPT to perform supported strategy creation and management actions.

When prompting write actions, specify important details clearly.

These can include:

  • The asset or trading pair.
  • The trading venue.
  • The amount of capital.
  • Whether you want paper or live trading.
  • The timeframe.
  • Entry and exit conditions.
  • Relevant risk parameters.

Clear prompts help reduce ambiguity before ChatGPT selects and uses a Coinrule MCP tool.

How do you fix the ChatGPT invalid_client error?

If ChatGPT displays an invalid_client error while connecting to Coinrule, remove the Coinrule connector and add it again from scratch.

Coinrule's documentation says this issue can occur when ChatGPT caches a stale client registration.

Removing and re-adding the connector forces a fresh OAuth registration.

If that does not resolve the issue:

  1. Check that the server URL is exactly https://cloud.coinrule.com/mcp.
  2. Make sure no extra path or query string has been added.
  3. Remove the connector again.
  4. Reconnect from scratch.
  5. Complete the Coinrule OAuth flow again.

See  Coinrule MCP Troubleshooting  for additional documented fixes.

Why can ChatGPT read my account but not create strategies?

The most likely reason is that the connection has Read only access.

Write tools are hidden when the connection does not have the coinrule:write scope.

A Read only connection therefore cannot create, launch, update, start, or stop strategies.

To enable supported write actions, reconnect and choose Read + Write access.

Grant this permission deliberately, particularly if your Coinrule account is connected to a live exchange or broker.

How do you revoke ChatGPT's Coinrule access?

Open Settings → Integrations in Coinrule.

Your ChatGPT connection appears there alongside other connected assistants.

You can revoke the connection at any time.

Revocation immediately prevents the connection's existing tokens from accessing your account.

Is connecting ChatGPT the same as giving it my exchange API key?

No.

Coinrule MCP uses OAuth 2.1, and ChatGPT does not receive your Coinrule password or exchange API keys.

The MCP server works through the Coinrule API on your behalf rather than receiving direct access to those underlying exchange credentials.

Frequently asked questions

What URL should I use to connect ChatGPT to Coinrule MCP?

Use exactly:

https://cloud.coinrule.com/mcp

Do not add an extra path or query string.

Does ChatGPT need Read + Write access?

No. You can use Read only access when you only want ChatGPT to inspect supported Coinrule information.

Read + Write is required for supported actions that use write tools.

Why am I seeing an invalid_client error?

ChatGPT may have cached a stale client registration. Remove the connector and add it again to force a new OAuth registration.

Can I revoke ChatGPT later?

Yes. You can revoke the connection through Settings → Integrations in Coinrule.
