How Is the Volume Indicator Calculated?

Last updated February 6, 2025

The Volume indicator on Coinrule is  candle-based volume , meaning it reflects the trading activity within each individual candle period. This approach ensures accurate and real-time volume tracking for specific exchanges.

Previously, the volume indicator aggregated 24-hour volume data across multiple exchanges using Coingecko. However, our new method provides a more live and precise measurement by directly using exchange-specific candle volume, similar to the volume seen on platforms like TradingView.

Example 1

How Is the Volume Indicator Calculated?

For the above rule example, in every given moment, the volume contains trades from the start of the last closed 15 minute candle up to the current time. The volume value updates in real-time. The evaluation of the above sequence will be true if the current live volume increases by 5% compared to the volume at the most recent closed 15 minute candle.

Example 2

How Is the Volume Indicator Calculated?

In the above case, the current volume is compared to a specified value ($5 billion) set in the rule. The evaluation of the above sequence will be true if the ETH's volume is is greater than $5 billion in the most recent (closed) 1 day candle.
